A few days ago, someone wrote on my Facebook page, suggesting a beautiful place in Romania, where one could write a real fairytale. I have heard of the place before, but this time I thought that it could be the beginning of a new series of articles: Fairytale Destination. I will write here about magical places I visit, read about or hear about from friends. I will try to write about as many places in Romania as possible, but I will also feature any other place that could inspire a fairytale. And the first Fairytale Destination will be exactly the place I was reminded a few days ago: the Poem Boem Villa in Sinaia.
As I mentioned several times before, I am attracted to anything “blue blood” related. I “hunt” castles and beautiful mansions all over Romania each summer and the beautiful villas in Sinaia, in the vicinity of the Peleş Castle are all architectural gems. I dream about living in a couple of them, and apparently my dream could become a reality sooner than I think 🙂
One of them, which now is the Poem Boem Villa, fascinated me each time I passed by it. And now I know its past and present stories.
The house was built in 1927, by a famous Romania architect, Toma Socolescu, as a gift for his wife. It was designed in the genuine Romanian architectural style (a style I absolutely love) in the residential area of Sinaia, close to the former summer residence of the Romanian Royal Family – Peleş Castle.
It was severely damaged during communism (I can only imagine how it must have looked like, after I have seen other mansions that during the former regime were kindergartens, hospitals or other public facilities and are now a ruin. But this beauty was really lucky, it was redecorated and it regained its past splendor with the help of its current owners, and it can now be rented. It has four bedrooms, four bathrooms, living and dining areas, fully equipped kitchen, a sauna and a gorgeous yard.
Keep up with Project Fairytale
