Every home should have a thorough spring clean at least once a year to maintain a healthy environment, but finding the time to complete this annual spruce up is often easier said than done. The best way to complete it without any hiccups is to plan and prepare beforehand. So without further ado, here are seven top tips that will help you along the way:
- Make sure you write a to-do list
When a spring clean comes around, organization is critical, and a to-do list will keep you on track. Write down every task you need to do and perhaps schedule in timings as well. There’ll be nothing more satisfying than crossing off those jobs and putting your feet up at the end of the day.
- Leave tricky tasks to the professionals
Some tasks just aren’t worth attempting yourself and are best left to the professionals. Call in the experts who can tackle those pesky carpet stains and undertake deep sofa cleaning using powerful steam machines; you certainly won’t regret it. They’ll do a much better job in half of the time and leave you to focus on the rest of the house.
- Always start from the top and work your way down
An obvious piece of advice but always one to remember: start from the top and work your way down. There’s no point cleaning a worktop if you’ve just mopped the floor, you’ll just be undoing your hard work. Start with the cobwebs and work down to the skirting boards to ensure all of the dirt is collected.
- Top up your cleaning cupboard
There’s nothing worse than scheduling a spring clean and then realizing your cleaning products are empty. Driving to the shops for those much-needed supplies can throw your whole day out the window, and you’ll be back to square one before you know it. Stock up on essentials the week beforehand, and your spring clean will run like clockwork.
- Get family members out of the house
Unless they are willing to help, it’s best to send family members out for the day. Having an empty house gives you more space and time and doesn’t leave room for distractions. You also won’t need to worry about the mess they’ll be making and can relish in that rare peace and quiet.
- Have an awesome playlist prepared
If you have to do an annual spring clean, you might as well try and enjoy it, and there’s nothing more motivational than a killer cleaning playlist. Bounce around to Bon Jovi or dance to Beyonce; you’ll probably burn off some calories too! Turning up the tunes and singing your heart out means the chores will be completed in no time.
- Declutter some clothes from your closet space
The best way to speed up cleaning is to declutter your cupboards. Spend some time going through old items and decide if you actually need them. You’ll probably find your home feels much cleaner the minute you free up some space.
