One of the most difficult things about daily life is finding enough time to get all the things done that need accomplishing. From taking care of family, spending time with friends, working, and maintaining a household, there hardly appears to be enough hours in the day to do essential tasks. This leaves very little time for those who wish to take on side projects with meaning.

Take the task of tracing your family history, for example. This can be a time-consuming and complex order. It is something that means quite a bit to a large amount of people, but if you want to complete such a project correctly, you need to be able to dedicate the right amount of time and focus to your research and findings.

If you are looking for ways to make the most out of the time that you have in the day so that you can spend more energy on things that mean the most to you, here are three things that can help you accomplish just that.

1) Get More Sleep at Night

Something that might not have occurred to you when you initially began trying to make the most of your time is that so much of your productivity rests on the quality of sleep you are able to get at night. When you don’t sleep well, you will be dragging around throughout the day and unable to efficiently accomplish even the most basic of tasks.

A tired mind will have a hard time focusing on work or school, while an exhausted body will automatically take things a bit slower. All of this results in less productivity and thus less time to dedicate to side projects.

There are number of different ways to go about getting better sleep at night. Some people find it helpful to take ten to fifteen minutes before bedtime to stretch out. This helps to relax the muscles, and when coupled with breathing techniques, you can help your mind and body to settle down better for the night.

Other people find that they get better sleep when they take a sleeping aid. You want to be careful with what sleeping aid you decide to use, though, as some prescription strength versions can be addictive. Others that contain melatonin are safer, but there’s the risk that they might reduce your brain’s ability to naturally produce this sleep-inducing hormone on its own with prolonged use.

The sleep aid that tends to carry the least amount of side effects and risk is THC free CBD. These products are a natural way to get better sleep at night without any of the risk factors of some of the more commonly used sleep aids. Because there is no THC in these products, you will not experience any of the “high” feelings that accompanies marijuana use. Furthermore, there are a few other health benefits that you can experience when you make use of CBD products.

2) Get Organised

Too many people seem to be in the habit of falling into a routine and going about their days methodically, almost coasting on autopilot. While this way of accomplishing daily tasks might work in a setting where you know that one day’s schedule will be identical to the next, coasting through your schedule doesn’t typically account for those things that come up unexpected throughout the week.

It is far better to become as organised as possible with your day so that you can better know exactly what needs doing and how much time — more or less — you need to allocate for tasks on a given day. When you take the time to really get organised, you can see where it will be possible to focus on other projects.

Start by investing in a good planner. Mark down the dates and times for things like work or school that need to be taken care of. This way you can actually see where you will have free time to devote to hobbies, such as your ancestry project. You might even find that you complete your tasks more efficiently by setting personal deadlines for as many things as possible.

3) Use Your Time Wisely

Another simple change that can be effective when you are trying to make the most out of your day is to become a master at using your time wisely. There are certain tasks that need doing throughout the week that can be completed much more efficiently when you do them at the right time of the day.

For instance, if you know that you will need to go grocery shopping for the week, don’t decide to so this on a Sunday or Saturday afternoon. Rather, try to do your shopping earlier in the morning on a weekday when you know that there will be fewer people in the store. This way you can accomplish a necessary task quickly and efficiently, potentially freeing up an hour of your weekend to devote to your ancestry project.

Depending on your circumstances, there are a number of ways to accumulate more free hours in the week through learning proper time management skills. Reducing the amount of distractions around you when you are trying to work or get through your to-do list is one of the simplest changes you can make. If you are in the habit of leaving the television on when you are working from home, try working in silence. You will be surprised by how much quicker you can get through your work when you allow your mind to focus on the task at hand.

All in all, when you know that your schedule is already fairly packed but you want to find more time to dedicate to projects like tracing your family history, you might need to make some sacrifices in the short term. But if you can make a habit out of managing your time wisely, then you might just find yourself enjoying more free time than you ever thought possible.
