It might seem old fashioned, but there are actually still quite a number of people who are emphatically connected to their faith. For some, going to church every week fills their spirits with joy. Then, there are the religious people who go on pilgrimages and treks, serving as missionaries and spiritual guides to help spread the word. What you don’t hear much about anymore are droves of young people becoming nuns and priests, but it happens. In fact, Millennial women are choosing the nunnery for several key reasons.

Answering a Higher Calling

Many of those who end up becoming nuns have a sort of epiphany at some point in their lives. It could be when they are young adults and they see how the world really is. Nonetheless, it is not uncommon for women to go to nunneries after encountering a major or traumatic life experience, as well as those who just need direction. What can’t be discounted is the fact that there are people who as young as five or six-years-old know that they want to dedicate themselves to their higher powers. They know what they want to do from an early age, and they don’t falter one little bit.

Driven by the Dating Scene

It can seem somewhat cynical to say that Millennial women are flocking to the nunneries as a result of the dating scene, but there is a lot of truth to this statement. Marriage rates are plummeting, and online dating has made it so that casual dating has a different meaning than it did in the past. With the prevalence of the ‘Netflix and Chill’ motto, those thinking about finding a spouse, settling down, and perhaps having a child are not finding things to be so simple. The Cenacle Sisters is a nunnery which has locations across the nation, and they are keen on helping to guide women of all ages into a life of devotion, faith, and sacrifice.

Desiring a Peaceful Life

It should go without saying that nuns live peaceful lives. Of course, nuns are known to roll up their sleeves and get their hands dirty for a good cause, but they have regimented lives that are broken up into predictable chunks. They form bonds nearly as close with their sisters as they do their higher power. As Millennial women look at their options, becoming a nun isn’t something to dread. Instead, it can be a means of exercising their religious rights and having full agency over their decisions for their lives. Anything is possible, as there have even been people become nuns after a lifetime of atheism.

However a person decides to serve their faith and express their devotion is their own business, but there is something special about the youth coming into their own. A choir boy might serve until he reaches adolescence, but a nun is capable of service her entire adult life. Young women who become nuns know precisely what they are doing, as it is the type of choice you make only after becoming fully informed. Becoming a nun is an act of faith and service, not a punishment. And if faith has anything to do with your motivations, you will always move with the approval of a higher power.
