Aging is inevitable. But there’s no reason you can’t do it gracefully! The media is full of beautiful people who never seem to age a day with glowing, tight skin that everyone strives for. In reality, all humans age. Skin sags and becomes dull over time. That said, there are many factors that contribute to the aging process happening faster than necessary. If you take care of yourself and your skin, you can slow premature aging and keep your skin healthier for longer. Read on for five ways to help delay the aging process.

  1. Stay out of the Sun

So, you’ve all heard this one before, and it’s easier said than done. In a country where it’s predominately sunny, it can seem ridiculous to try to avoid the sun. While enjoying the sun is pleasant and helps your body produce Vitamin D, it has negative and damaging effects on your skin. If you’re going to be in the sun, make sure to use a sunscreen with at least SPF 30 or more, and reapply every 2 hours. Wear a sunhat and seek areas with the cover of shade if you’re going to be out for extended periods.

  1. Get Your Beauty Sleep

They don’t call it ‘beauty sleep’ for nothing. There are tons of benefits to getting adequate sleep, not only physically, but mentally as well. While you sleep, your skin produces collagen and repairs your skin cells much faster than when you are awake. This keeps your skin from sagging and reduces the appearance of wrinkles. You’ll experience increased blood flow to the skin while you sleep, giving you a healthy glow when you wake up.

  1. Hydrate

Our bodies are composed of up to 75% water. When we are dehydrated, much like a dried riverbed, our skin will begin to shrivel and crack. These cracks appear as wrinkles. Plump, hydrated skin will look younger and stay that way for longer. According to Women’s Health, women should drink 2.1 litres of water a day and men should drink around 2.6 litres.

  1. Watch Your Diet

What you put into your body is just as important as what you put onto your body. Choose foods rich in Vitamin E, like nuts, fish and avocado. Vitamin E is an antioxidant and can help reduce UV damage to the skin. Also include foods with high Vitamin C content like oranges or broccoli, as they protect your skin against free radical damage. Avoid processed foods or anything containing trans-fat, excessive sugar, or salt. These types of foods can actually break down your collagen and elastin, increasing the appearance of wrinkles.

  1. Choose Quality Skincare Products

There are tons of products available that market themselves as “anti-aging” but it’s important to do your research. Your skin is a sponge and whatever products you put onto your skin are absorbed into your body. You want to choose trusted products containing quality ingredients that can not only repair your skin but are free of toxic chemicals. Osmosis skin care products offer non-inflammatory options that are safe to use, even on sensitive skin. To see dramatic results, make sure to seek out products which penetrate deep into your dermis to correct the damage at its source.

Though the fountain of youth is still to be discovered, you can still take steps to keep your skin looking young. Using these tips ensures that your skin doesn’t age faster than it needs to. Reduce premature skin aging and stay fresh, healthy and radiant!
