Whether it’s for your spouse, your child, or your best friend, a birthday party can be a wonderful way to show someone how much they mean to you, and make them feel as though they are truly special and loved. You don’t need to spend a fortune, either, as the most meaningful party ideas are those that come with a lot of thought rather than with a huge price tag.

Decorations

The way you decorate the party space creates the mood for the event and is a great way to show the guest of honor that you have really thought about them while planning the party. If you are having a themed event, then try to reflect that in the décor; otherwise, try to think about the things that your guest of honor enjoys doing and reflect that in the decorations.

Some birthday party decoration ideas are:

  • Vintage Tea Party. If your guest loves going out for an upmarket afternoon tea, then a vintage tea party theme is perfect. You can scout thrift stores to access an eclectic mix of tea pots, cups and saucers — you could even make cute cake stands.
  • Disco Ball Pinata. If you’re throwing a party for someone who loves the seventies, or you’re going for an indoor roller disco theme, then a disco ball pinata is a great addition! You could make pinatas out of paper mache, and then fill them with sweets and cover it with sequins or tin foil to make it look like a disco ball.
  • Birthday Banner. You could make a personalized birthday banner out of card and string, and then decorate it using paints, glitter, pens… anything you have lying around really!
  • Photo Display. Create a display of embarrassing baby photos or treasured memories by hanging photos from balloons or by sticking them together to create a collage.

The Cake

Even if you’re not a great baker, a homemade cake (even if the icing is terrible!) will mean a lot because it’s clear how much effort you have put into it. Plus, it means that you can make the cake using their favourite flavors.

Make it even more special by looking at personalised cake toppers.

Gifts

Gifts don’t need to be expensive; they just need to show that you care. There are loads of great ideas for simple homemade gifts, including:

  • Homemade candles
  • Bath bombs
  • Knitted blanket
  • Clay jewelry holders
  • Engraved mugs
  • Handmade jewelry

The list is nearly endless!

Entertainment

If your party is going to be a hit, you need to make sure that your guests are entertained! For more adult parties, you could build a cocktail making station and get everyone to try and create the best signature cocktail, or you could start up a beer pong, which is a favorite for a reason!

If you don’t want a boozy party, get hold of some space hoppers and race them (be careful of breakables!) or do some craft activities instead.
