Before you start shopping for wedding dresses it’s helpful to collect inspiration. Gather photographs so you have an idea of the types of dresses you are looking for. Two of the best places to find wedding dress inspiration are Pinterest and Instagram. With so many examples on these sites, it’s helpful to have a rough idea of the style you’re looking for. When you’re sure of the style you can search using these keywords. You might be looking for a ‘fishtail dress’, or a ‘sweetheart bodice’. Perhaps a ‘ball gown’ or a ‘column’ style?
Save all the inspiration you find, and write notes about your favourites, (for instance the materials you are drawn to or certain shapes). Whether it’s a top fashion blog or your favourite wedding magazine, collect all the inspiration you can find.
2. Budget First
It’s important to set a budget before you start shopping for wedding dresses, failing to budget could leave you feeling disappointed. You might fall in love with a dress that’s too expensive, (and you don’t want that kind of stress)! When you’re budgeting remember to take into account the costs of your hair, wedding make-up, and accessories. All of these things will affect the budget for your wedding look.
3. Research Designers
Once you’ve got an idea of the type of dress you’d like, it’s time to start researching the best designers. If you’ve been following certain designers on Instagram, you might already have a few in mind. Perhaps you have friends who can recommend designers? Or you’d prefer to research by yourself? Certain designers will allow you to personalise your wedding gown, so if you’re looking for something truly unique, it’s worth prioritising those who offer these options.
4. Take Photographs
When you’re trying on wedding dresses it’s advisable to take a lot of photographs. Trying on different types of wedding dresses is a lot of fun, but it can also be slightly overwhelming. You might find that it’s nice to look back at the pictures when you’re away from the wedding boutique. It can be easier to come to a final decision when you’ve had a little more time to think about it.
5. Give Yourself Plenty of Time
The last thing you want is having to rush to make a decision. It’s better to start shopping for a wedding dress far in advance. When you’ve got plenty of time, you’ll feel less under pressure and can really enjoy the process of finding the perfect dress. Take your friends and family along, so they can help you choose your dream dress.
