Anyone can put on a lovely dress, shoes, and accessories and walk down an aisle, but what will make you look and feel like a beautiful bride on your wedding day? Is it what others think of you? Is it what your soon-to-be-spouse thinks of you? No: nobody else’s opinion should influence how you feel about yourself. While there are practical steps that can be taken to enhance a person’s physical appearance (make them appear healthier and more energetic), true beauty radiates from within.
Read on to discover how to look and—more importantly—feel beautiful on your wedding day.
Make good quality sleep a priority
Sleep is essential to good health all year round, but before your wedding day it becomes even more valuable. When you are well rested you will find it easier to handle stress and anxiety, to keep a clear complexion, and it can also help you to maintain or lose weight. You should be aiming for at least seven hours of unbroken sleep each night—as well as the occasional power nap when you are feeling run down. It’s not called beauty sleep for nothing.
Take care of your skin
You want your skin to be clear and fresh on the day of your wedding, but unfortunately it is not uncommon for skin to break out at times of stress. To achieve flawless skin for wedding day you should avoid trying new products on your skin in case you have a bad reaction. The key is to keep skincare simple with regular cleansing, moisturizing face masks, and gentle toners. Combine this with a healthy diet and plenty of water and your skin will look its best.
Remember to stay hydrated
It is important to stay hydrated all the time, but at times of stress it becomes even more crucial. Proper hydration can help you to function mentally and physically and make it easier to manage your emotions. It also has the added benefit of helping to clear the body of toxins (leading to clearer skin), and can regulate the metabolism, therefore making weight management easier.
Eat a balanced and nutritious diet
Resist the pressure to put yourself on a restrictive diet in an effort to lose weight as quickly as possible. There is nothing wrong with trying to shed pounds if that will help your self-esteem and/or health, but fad diets or starving yourself of nutrients will cause more harm than good. Instead, incorporate a range of nutritious foods in your diet that will give you energy without excessive salt, sugar, or fat, and keep an eye on your calorie intake. Exercise your body and mind
Again, embarking on a rigorous exercise regime for weight loss could put your body through unnecessary stress and you might even injure yourself in the run up to your wedding. Instead, try low-impact and fun exercise that will boost your mood, burn excess calories, and help you tone up.
Do more of what makes you happy
Anxiety and stress are going to affect your mental and physical health, and while it is natural to feel nerves about the big day ahead, it is not healthy to let negative emotions take over. Make time for activities that help you relax and boost your mood—whether that’s spending time with friends, pets, taking walks in nature, exercising, or meditating. The key is to discover what nourishes your soul and give yourself time to unwind; you will be amazed at the impact that your mental wellbeing can have on your appearance.
