Australia is such a popular destination for families that there are even television shows devoted to helping families move out there for good. Its sunny weather, affordable living costs and exotic wildlife are perfect for little kids who want to make the most of their time outdoors. If you are planning to enjoy a family vacation to Australia, then here are a few considerations to make.
Be Mindful of the Wildlife
Australia is famous for its dangerous box jellyfish, great white sharks and array of interesting insects and snakes. However, it’s important to remember that while you’re out there, it won’t be behind the protective glass of a zoo enclosure: you will be co-existing with it. When you get into bed it is always recommended that you check your sheets just to make sure there’s no spiders that have crawled in between the layers. The same goes for your shoes, which should always be tipped out before you put them on. Be mindful not to leave your car windows rolled down for too long if it’s hot, as huntsman spiders have a reputation for hiding in sun visors. Not doing so could result in a panicked rush to hospital to get antivenom.
Cost of Living
The cost of living in Australia is infamously low: with the exception of your groceries. This means that you will have a pleasant array of accommodation options to choose from when traveling: and most at an affordable price. If you were looking for Adelaide hills accommodation, for example, you might be surprised by how affordable even staying in a cottage can be. Cottages and vacation rentals are ideal when you are traveling with small children.
Pick One City and Stick to It
Australia is a an incredibly large country: in fact it is the sixth largest in the world. It’s therefore sensible not to have the ambition of city hopping, unless you happen to have a lot of time and money for plane tickets. When you have children, especially, it is far less hassle to stay near one major city and soak up all that particular destination has to offer.
Uncover National Parks
If you are spending a lot of time touring nearby areas in your car, then national parks should absolutely be on your radar. Darwin, for example, has a lagoon to visit and is not too far from Kakadu National Park, which has waterfalls that you and your kids can actually go and swim around. Some national parks will have some of Australia’s most famous wildlife, including crocodiles (likely to be national parks you can’t go swimming in!).
Australia might require quite the plane journey to get there, but it will truly be great once you land. Your children will be able to view animals they will have previously only seen on the television, and have beautiful clear shallow waters to swim in. Its cost of living also helps to balance out the price of the plane ticket to travel there.
